THROUGH THE WEEK

Friday 10th May 2024

Feast Of St Comgall of Bangor
Saint Comgall (c. 510–520 – 597/602), an early Irish saint, was the founder and abbot of the great Irish monastery at Bangor in Ireland.
Comgall was born sometime between 510 and 520 in Dál nAraida in Ulster according to the Irish annals near the place now known as Magheramorne in present-day Co. Antrim.  Comgall’s father was Setna, a Pictish  warrior; his mother’s name was Briga.
After serving as a soldier in his early life, he was educated under Fintan of Clonenagh and also studied under Finnian of Movilla, Mobhí Clárainech at Glasnevin, and Ciarán of Clonmacnoise.
*********************************************************************************************                                              PRAYER FOR PEACE IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL
God of Comfort,  send your Spirit to encompass all those whose lives
are torn apart by violence and death in Israel and Palestine.
You are the Advocate of the oppressed and the One whose eye is on the sparrow.  Let arms reach out in healing, rather than aggression.
Let hearts mourn rather than militarize.   *********************************************************************************                                                           PRAYER FOR THE PEOPLE OF UKRAINE
Loving God, we pray for the people of Ukraine,  for all those suffering or afraid, that you will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices. We pray for the world, that in this moment of crisis, we may reach out in solidarity to our brothers and sisters in need. May we walk in your ways so that peace and justice become a reality for the people of Ukraine and for all the world.    Amen.                                   Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us!      Our Lady of Kyiv, pray for us!
*****************************************************************************************                                                     PRAYER FOR THE BEREAVED                                            Lord, comfort all who mourn, and strengthen them in the Hope of the Resurrection, where there will be no more sickness or mourning, but eternal peace and happiness in your Presence.
