Friends2Talk (local mental wellbeing group) in association with Coalisland Community Hub are currently developing a Coalisland Camino in the area. The Camino walk route will be a circular walk of 26.8km, and will leave St. Patrick’s Hall, Coalisland and walk along the canal until Derrytresk, then to Maghery Ferry, then to the Washingbay Centre, then up Cloghog, past Clonoe Chapel, up Lisnastrane, through Mousetown to Brackaville and returning to St. Patrick’s Hall. The Camino will be fully signposted, and will have a special Camino Passport/Credential to have stamped throughout the walk. We will be holding our first official Coalisland Camino walk on Sunday 17th August 2025. The Camino will be designed to showcase places of spiritual, historic and folklore in our area, and it is hope this will bring a sense of mental, and/or spiritual wellbeing to those ‘pilgrims’ who take part either on the day or at a time of their choice. The Camino is not a race, rather a chance to find your inner self, and a time to be active and walk with others, sharing stories and enjoying the pilgrimage. To help prepare people for the Camino we will be holding Camino walks along the Canal walkway from the Community Hub at St. Patrick’s Hall to Macs Lock (Gortgonis Road) 5km, each Tuesday and Thursday evening starting at 7pm, and having a cuppa and chat afterwards, just turn up and get walking with us. For people who may not be able to walk the full 26.8km, we hope to organise relay teams where the Camino can be divided into 5/6/7km stages, with each team member walking a stage, we will be organising 4 Camino walks each year, so over a few Caminos the person will have completed the full 26.8km. Our official walks will have qualified Walk Leaders. Some walks will also have qualified, and/or student Counsellors who will be delighted to walk & talk with you should you wish to get some therapeutic advice (ask our organisers in the Hall before each walk about this). Coalisland Camino is open to all, and the route is wheelchair accessible.
